Hello Friend!
Thank you for stopping by my workshop! Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is James Doyen. I’m a lifelong technology enthusiast turned IT professional. By day, I manage a K-12 school district technology department. By night, I am an aspiring independent developer.
As a lifelong gamer, my journey down the rabbit hole into the seemingly infinite world of learning about computers began when I was in middle school. In 2006, at the age of 12, I spent several weeks setting up and managing a self-hosted Runescape private server on my grandparent’s PC. My friends and I were beyond excited to be able to play our own custom version of the game we loved. From figuring out how to download and configure Java SDK, to logging into the family router to forward ports, to modding the game code itself by tweaking damage values, managing shop inventories, and importing custom assets. I did a little bit of everything. My friends were extremely impressed and we had a blast playing together!
Fast forward nearly two decades and I’ve since self-hosted several game servers, taken countless classes on all things IT, including programming, networking, data science, cybersecurity, management, web development, and game design, acquired several industry recognized IT certifications, and currently hold a BS IT degree. While I’ve certainly gotten older, some things never change! I've decided to make this website to showcase some of the cool things I’ve made over the years and to continue to hone my skills. If you get a chance to look things over, please reach out and let me know what you think!
Thank you,
James Doyen
